Mini-Herb Pots

Mini-Herb Pots

Mini Herb Pots (The cover photo is at 4 weeks…still young seedlings, not yet outside…)

I’m learning to ‘just try’ when it comes to growing things in my garden and I’ve learned to not ‘second guess’ things to try. And this year, covid 2020, there is no opportunity to ‘hum and uh’ at the garden centre. I’ve been able to self-isolate in a very remote location but that also means with the very few trips (2 quick visits in 12 weeks) to the local hardware/garden centre store. The result is that I first, didn’t dawdle and second, reacted quickly because a return trip was out of the question. (And interestingly, friends went in a little later than me to find everything sold out. My luck this year was simply being at the right spot at the right time…and not dithering…lol …:)).

Some of the things I found were these delightful mini-pots to grow herbs: parsley, basil and chives. As a new ‘from seed’ gardener, I’m always amazed at what such tiny little seeds grow into, which makes me wonder about the nutritional value found in eating more seeds in ones diet…but that’s a separate topic.

What was really cool about these mini herb pot ‘kits’ was the ‘growing mix’. Each pot came with a small dry growing potting mix pellet and instructions to add 1/2c of water. Watching them expand with the addition of water made me feel like a kid back in an elementary school science class. So cool! The pictures below show the pellets after the water was added and then, like fluffing cooked rice, after the potting soil was fluffed with a fork. In the end, miraculously, there was the perfect amount of growing soil to fill each pot and get these tiny little herb seeds started.
