Container Vege Garden 2020

So far, 2020 has been an interesting year…to say the least. With the world in the grips of a global pandemic, I’ve found myself self-isolated at a remote cabin location. Gardening is an adventure here that I share with the brown bears, dear, rabbits, birds and most especially, on this lake, the loons. Every time I hear a loon calling down the lake, I think of one of my sons and his incredible ability to ‘call the loons’ and we’d all hear them respond. Of course, this was easier for him before his ‘voice change’ ;).

But I digress, back to the our 2020 lakeside cabin garden. We’ve had 3 large planters sitting empty on our decks for almost 20 years and finally filled them this year. And the result has been delightful. We are literally isolated in the woods with a lake out the front of our cabin and woods in the back and yet it’s the planter off of our dining room that we pull our chairs up to and ‘watch grow’ as the sun sets. The interesting part will be to see if the dear come around to the decks on the front of our cabin to get into these yummy planters.

For now, the planters feature lots of lettuce but when it gets too hot for lettuce, I’ll be swapping it out for the ever reliable zucchini and for the herbs that I’m currently nurturing inside our cabin on windowsills before transplanting them outside.

The bottom line is that my husband and I are so taken by the joy even the smallest garden delivers.
