Basic Homemade Waffles
Easy Waffles: From the Lake to Your Freezer
This is my go-to recipe for plain waffles—simple, delicious, and super versatile. I make these often at the lake, where mornings are busy with sculling, water skiing, or just soaking up the fresh air. They’ve become a tradition, and now I’ve added a little time-saving twist to make them even better!
Whenever I whip up a batch, I make extras, let them cool, and then freeze them. It’s so handy to have waffles ready to go in the freezer. They reheat beautifully in the toaster, going straight from freezer to breakfast plate in no time. Add an egg (or two), some fresh fruit, or a drizzle of syrup, and you’ve got an instant, hearty breakfast to fuel your morning adventures.
These waffles are simple enough to be a blank canvas for any toppings you like but flavorful enough to enjoy on their own. Whether you’re making them fresh or pulling a few from the freezer for a quick meal, they’re the perfect way to start the day.
So, go ahead—make a big batch, freeze the extras, and enjoy delicious, homemade waffles whenever the craving strikes. ❤️🧇✨
Homemade Waffle Recipe
Special Note: This recipe can be easily jazzed up by adding anything you want to try…bananas, yes…blueberries, you betcha’…chocolate chips, why not…maybe cheese, okay…the sky’s the limit with this recipe base.
Ingredients:
1 c all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tbsp baking powder
1/4 tsp table salt
1 1/8 c milk
1 egg
Instructions:
Preheat waffle iron.
Place all dry ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine.
Combine wet ingredients.
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, whisk to combine.
Let batter sit for 5 minutes before using.
Once waffle iron is fully heated and ready to use, brush with a little oil. Add about 1/2 c of waffle batter (amount of batter per waffle depends on the size of the waffle iron).
Close lid until cooked. (my waffle iron beeps and its light turns from red to green)
Enjoy immediately or place directly on racks in a warmed oven or cool thoroughly on cookie racks and then stack in a zip lock bah and freeze for later use.
Makes about 4 waffles (depending on the size of the waffles).
