2024 Radishes - Cherriettes

2024 Radishes - Cherriettes

Radishes 2024: A Garden Win (and a Soil Lesson Learned… Again)

This year, I planted two types of radishes, but only one truly thrived—the Cherriette radish. These little gems grew beautifully, proving yet again that radishes are one of the easiest vegetables to grow.

Why I Love Growing Radishes

Radishes are quick growers, and one of the best things about them is how they let you know when they’re ready. Unlike some vegetables that keep you guessing, radishes start to push up through the soil as they mature, practically waving a little red flag saying, “Hey, I’m ready to harvest!”

My Low-Maintenance Approach

I like to keep things simple when planting radishes:

  • No fussy thinning – The seeds are tiny, so I just plant them about ¼ to ½ inch deep in warm soil with lots of lightand let them do their thing.

  • No complicated care routine – Just regular watering and a little patience.

The Radishes That Didn’t Make It…

I’m not mentioning the other radishes I planted because, well… they failed spectacularly. Not because they weren’t suited to the garden, but because of the same lesson I had to learn with other crops this year—the initial soil was completely lacking in nutrition.

Once again, this was a reminder that soil quality matters. Even the easiest vegetables won’t grow in dead dirt. The Cherriettes were planted in amended soil proving to be the garden MVPs of my radish patch.

Looking Ahead

Next year, with properly amended soil, I might experiment with a few new varieties. But for now, I’m celebrating my crisp, peppery little Cherriette radishes—the small but mighty success of 2024! 🌱✨
